FIFA World Cup 2018: Senegal’s Controversial Path to World Cup Qualification

As Senegal prepares to take on Poland in its Group H clash in a few hours, we take a look at the betting scandal that rocked world football and shone a spotlight on a coastal African country, most famous for upsetting defending champions France in a group stage clash in FIFA World Cup 2002. The betting scandal led to a lifetime ban for the maligned match referee Joseph Lamptey and allowed Senegal an unprecedented second crack at a crucial qualification game en-route FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
